Ashes to Fire #2: “Jerusalem, Jerusalem”
Text: Luke 13:31-35
As Jesus moves steadfastly toward Jerusalem, he does so fearlessly, knowing that the timing if his death is entirely in the hands of the Father. Lamenting the broken systems and lost people in Jerusalem, Jesus continues to make intentional decisions which lead to his arrest and execution. And yet, we still get a sense for the Father-heart of God, as Jesus longs to gather under his wings the very people who will seek to do him harm. In a reversal of our English idiom about the fox guarding the hen house, here we see the hen walking straight into the lair of the fox.
