“Stories That Shape Us: Healed for Glory”
Text: Leviticus 13:1-8, 40-46
Today we study a passage from Leviticus which discusses how the Israelites declared a person “unclean.” This was a time before medical advancements had been made, and separating one from the rest of the community was necessary to ensure the entire community did not become infected. By Jesus’ time, the notion of being “unclean” was taken to the extreme and was equated as being unholy. In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus shows us in His interactions with the sick and others considered as “unclean” that this interpretation is not correct – God’s grace extends even to those who are pushed to the margins of society.
