“Stories That Shape Us: 30 Pieces of Silver”
Text: Zechariah 11
We continue our “Stories That Shape Us” series, looking at Old Testament passages that shape or are recalled in New Testament. This week’s passage from Zechariah is one that would have familiar in the time of Jesus. Zechariah’s rejection of the thirty silver shekel payment given to him by wicked sheep dealers is recalled in the New Testament when Judas, filled with remorse at his betrayal of Jesus, throws his own payment given by the chief priests and elders back into the Temple. And yet, this also recalls Jeremiah buying land as the exile begins, which signified the promise of a resurrection.
