Text: 1 Peter 4:1-19
During Jesus’ capture in the Garden of Gethsemane, the apostle Peter armed himself with a sword and violently used it in an attempt to protect Jesus. In the book of 1 Peter, he tells the early church to arm themselves not with weapons, but with the intentions of Jesus, who “fought” with love, grace, and forgiveness. Jesus completely surrendered to the will of God, and by doing the same, we receive victory over sin and the ways of this world.
